Swale Areas

Map of Swale

Sittingbourne

Sittingbourne is the primary town in Swale and has good connections to London on the mainline railway. There is a leisure centre, small shopping centre and a good range of shops on the High Street too.

Faversham

Faversham is a pretty, historic market town roughly half way between Sittingbourne and Canterbury. It too is on the mainline railway to London, and is also home to Britain’s oldest brewery.

Isle of Sheppey

The Isle of Sheppey has a varied landscape. Sheerness is the main town, and includes the large port at Sheerness Docks where lots of fruit and veg, as well as cars are imported into Britain. At the other end of the Island are the beach resorts.

Rural Areas

Apart from the three main towns, Swale is a very rural borough, with a variety of landscapes supporting a rich abundance of wildlife. Much of the Isle of Sheppey and the northern fringes of the mainland is marshland with national and international protection status. The Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty skirts the southern part of the Borough and in between are pretty villages nestling amongst farmland.
